The average for the entirety of 2021 was $7,555 per container. This cost shows an increase of $4,756 per container, compared to the $2,799 average of the last five years.

The overall increase in the shipping costs varies per route. In more detail, the Shanghai – Rotterdam, Shanghai – New York and Shanghai – Genoa lines are the most expensive lines. By contrast, the New York – Rotterdam, Los Angeles – Shanghai and Rotterdam – Shanghai lines are the lowest cost lines.

In conclusion, it is worth noting that these increases have led to price increases on many products, raw materials and goods.
