Did the exports of Italian stone sawing and grinding machines increase or decrease in the first trimester of 2021?
Italy is the oldest manufacturer and largest exporter of stone sawing and grinding/polishing machines in the world. The COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown led to a significant reduction in exports in 2020. However, the statistics for the first three months of 2021 show a recovery in exports and a return to the high levels of previous years.
In the Table below we see the changes (%) in the value of exports between the first three months of 2020 – 2021, the last three months of 2020 and the first three months of 2021 of exports of Italian stone sawing and grinding machines.
In the sawing machines (Hs Code: 84641000) the increase between the first three months 2020 – 2021 is mainly due to the increase in exports to the USA, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Spain.
The small increase between the last three months of 2020 and the first three months of 2021 is due to increased exports to India, France, Spain and Germany.
In the grinding machines (Hs Code: 84642080) the big increase between the first three months 2020 – 2021 is mainly due to the increase in exports to Portugal, India, the United Kingdom, Germany and the USA.
The decline between the last three months of 2020 and the first three months of 2021 is due to the decline in exports to France, the USA. and the United Kingdom.
*The statistics are derived from the analysis of the Tariff Class Codes – Harmonized System (HS) Codes:
