The 11th edition of the Mining Expo and Conference in Windhoek, Namibia, showcased the vibrant and dynamic state of the country’s mining industry. Held under the theme “Green Shoots for Namibia’s Mining Industry,” the event brought together industry leaders, government officials, and stakeholders to discuss the sector’s future.
Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah highlighted the significant contribution of mining to Namibia’s economy, emphasizing the need for responsible management of mineral resources. Minister of Mines and Energy, Tom Alweendo, addressed the challenges facing the sector, including a backlog of exploration license applications.
The conference focused on critical raw minerals and Namibia’s vision to become a global leader in their supply chain. Alweendo emphasized the importance of in-country value addition and job creation. While addressing concerns about resource nationalism, he defended the government’s policies as essential for economic development.
The Expo also showcased progress in local content development and the introduction of the “National Database of Mining Goods and Services.” Nandi-Ndaitwah called for stronger collaboration between industries, government, and education to support the growth of the mining supply chain.
