Tiles and mosaics produced for kitchens and bathrooms in a workshop in the Bandırma district of the western province of Balıkesir are being exported to the U.S. and Canada.

Mert Kilitçi, 28, who worked in some marble companies in the region, founded his own workshop in Bandırma eight months ago. The Turkish Employment Organization (İŞKUR) helped him find the workshop, which now employs 25 workers, 22 of whom are women.

Marbles obtained from Balıkesir, Marmara Island and Bandırma are processed by the machines in this workshop and turned into tiles and mosaics. An average of 10,000 square meters of tiles and mosaics are produced per month, and nearly 6,000 square meters of them are packed and sent to some construction markets in the U.S. and Canada in containers.

Turkey is known for being very rich in natural stones, Kilitçi tells Anadolu Agency (AA).
