Afghanistan has significantly increased its marble exports over the past five months. According to Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the country exported 117,000 tons of marble, generating a revenue of $6.1 million.

This surge is primarily attributed to the 108 marble processing plants operating nationwide. The demand for Afghan marble is high in countries such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Turkmenistan, India, Germany, Russia, Uzbekistan, China, Mexico, Pakistan, and others.

However, despite this significant achievement, there is room for further growth. The Chamber of Commerce and Investment highlights the importance of processing marble domestically to boost exports and revenue. Jan Agha Naveed, the Chamber’s spokesperson, states that Afghan marble is in high global demand and suggests taking additional measures to increase exports to countries like the United Arab Emirates and other European nations.

Mohammad Nabi Afghan, an economic expert, emphasizes the need for a long-term government plan outlining goals and strategies for marble processing and export. Such a plan would contribute to strengthening the country’s economy and ensuring the sustainable development of the sector.
