President João Lourenço today invited Italian businessmen to expand their investments in Angola, taking advantage of opportunities in sectors such as ornamental stone mining, automotive, timber, and pharmaceutical industries.

As Lourenço explained at the end of his meeting with his Italian counterpart, Sergio Mattarella, in Rome, the energy sector concentrates the most business initiatives from Italy in Angola, followed by agriculture and, to a lesser extent, businesses in the defence and security sectors.

There are still great opportunities to be explored, “there is a lot of ground to cover,” said the president, who stressed the government’s support. For his part, Mattarella highlighted the notable increase in energy investment in 2022 and the potential for expanding cooperation in other sectors of the economy.

The talks also turned to cooperation interests in the cultural sector, including the possible increase of Angolan students in Italian universities, Lourenço confirmed to the press. Finally, they also discussed international politics, focusing on the various armed conflicts in Africa and the global repercussions of the Russo-Ukrainian war.
