Despite soaring freight costs, supply chain bottlenecks, and the Red Sea maritime crisis, India’s marble, natural stone, and ceramic tiles sector continues its strong upward trajectory, underpinned by a booming domestic real estate and construction market.
Ongoing geopolitical friction in the Middle East and severe shipping disruptions along the critical Red Sea corridor have sent shockwaves across global trade. Ocean freight rates have escalated sharply, transit times have lengthened, and marine insurance premiums have spiked. At the same time, major industrial clusters—such as the Morbi hub in Gujarat, the cornerstone of India’s ceramic tile production—are facing mounting cost pressures due to elevated fuel prices and delayed shipments of imported propane and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
However, far from slumping under these external pressures, India’s natural stone, marble, and surfacing materials industry is demonstrating remarkable structural resilience.
Domestic Real Estate Demand Acts as a Buffer
The primary engine shielding the sector from global volatility is the surging domestic demand for quality housing and infrastructure. According to the latest market report by CREDAI-Liases Foras, India’s primary residential housing market achieved record sales value in 2025, reaching Rs 8.46 lakh crore (over $100 billion), up 16% year-on-year.
Notably, premium residential properties priced above Rs 1 crore accounted for nearly 78% of the total sales value. Homebuyers are increasingly prioritizing premium interior finishes, high-grade natural stone, and durable surfacing materials, generating robust domestic absorption for local stone processors and tile manufacturers.
Industry Leaders Voice Confidence
“India’s construction sector continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience despite global uncertainties. While geopolitical developments have created temporary challenges in logistics, fuel availability, and supply chains, the long-term outlook for the tiles and marble industry remains encouraging. Continued growth in housing, commercial real estate, and infrastructure development is driving demand for high-quality, durable, and sustainable surface materials.”
— Aparna Reddy, Executive Director, Aparna Enterprises Ltd
“Housing demand, commercial expansion, and infrastructure investments remain robust. Developers are increasingly focusing on quality construction and durable materials that enhance long-term value. We remain optimistic that the tiles and marble industry will continue to benefit from India’s urbanisation and construction-led growth story.”

Global Market Takeaway
For the international natural stone trade, India’s market dynamics highlight a pivotal reality: a strong domestic manufacturing base combined with sustained domestic consumption can successfully mitigate severe international logistics crises. As a premier hub for processing and exports, India remains one of the most dynamic markets in the global stone and surface industry.
