With enthusiasm and great interest, 23 buyers from 14 European countries welcomed Sicilian marble craftsmanship during their visit to Trapani for the first national event dedicated to the stone industry, “Trapani Marble 2025.”
The four-day event, held from March 18 to 21, 2025, is an initiative of CNA and ICE, the Italian Agency for the Promotion and Internationalization of Italian Enterprises. The event kicked off with a Welcome Speech at the historic Chiostro San Domenico in Trapani, attended by top executives from CNA and ICE, as well as representatives from regional institutions.
The Importance of International Networking
“Trapani Marble 2025 is not just a showcase of our craftsmanship but also a great opportunity for economic and professional growth. The presence of European buyers proves the value of our products and their ability to compete internationally,” stated Alberto Santoro, President of CNA Lapidei. He emphasized that the goal is not only to sell products but also to create long-term partnerships and develop European synergies to ensure the sector’s sustainability.
Riccardo Masini, Head of the Lapidei sector at CNA Costruzioni, highlighted that strengthening relationships within the European market is a strategic choice, especially given the current global challenges. He also pointed out the importance of the green transition, workplace safety, and innovation—key areas in which the industry must invest.
The Value of Marble Craftsmanship in Sicily
Piero Giglione, General Secretary of CNA Sicily, stressed that the marble sector is a cornerstone of the local economy, combining cultural heritage with economic strength. “Innovation, sustainability, and international competitiveness are the key factors we need to enhance. By investing in quality, research, new technology, and education, we can ensure the growth of our businesses,” he stated.
The Role of Local and Regional Authorities
Several key public and private sector figures attended the event, including Tommaso Di Matteo, Director of SPRINT Sicily, who presented the region’s initiatives to support internationalization. Domenico Macchiarella, representing the Regional Office for Productive Activities, outlined the region’s plans for the sector and the available incentives for innovation.
The Mayor of Trapani, Giacomo Tranchida, addressed infrastructure deficiencies, proposing the creation of an intermodal hub and a “marble route” to facilitate the transport of these artisanal products. The Mayor of Custonaci, Fabrizio Fonte, emphasized the importance of targeting European markets, an area where Sicilian businesses have not yet fully focused.
Continuing with Quarry and Workshop Visits
The program continues on March 20, 2025, with visits to the region’s marble quarries and workshops where renowned marble varieties such as Perlato and Perlatino di Sicilia, Libeccio Antico, and Avorio Venato are processed. These activities provide international buyers with a unique opportunity to experience firsthand the quality and craftsmanship of Sicilian marble.
“Trapani Marble 2025” is emerging as a key reference point for the European marble market, offering Sicilian businesses the chance to strengthen their international presence and build strategic partnerships for the future.
