The Angolan government is taking decisive steps to strengthen its ornamental stone sector by substantially increasing the budget for the Ornamental Stone Development Hub, inaugurated in January 2025. The hub’s new funding, amounting to approximately USD 22 million for 2026, highlights the country’s strategic commitment to local processing and value addition in its mineral resources.
The revised allocation was approved under the 2026 General State Budget and reflects Angola’s broader policy to boost domestic beneficiation and diversify its economy beyond raw material exports.
Located in the Sacomar municipality of Namibe province, an area rich in marble and granite, the hub aims to revitalize the marble and granite value chain, strengthen export capacity, and promote vertical integration through modern processing facilities.
Developed by the contractual group Telhabel, the project has already created 400 direct jobs, contributing significantly to local and regional economic development.
This initiative—and the substantial budget increase—aligns with Angola’s national strategy for economic diversification and sustainable growth. Implemented under the National Development Plan 2023–2027, the hub is expected to generate fiscal revenues, attract new investment in mineral processing, and enhance the international competitiveness of Angola’s ornamental stone industry.
Through these measures, Angola aims to strengthen its position on the global marble and granite map, investing not only in its natural resources but also in technical expertise, employment, and value-added production.
