The Brazilian Center of Natural Stone Exporters (Centrorochas) has expressed serious concern over a recent announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump to impose a 50% tariff on Brazilian products. The decision poses a direct threat to the balance of trade relations between the two nations and significantly impacts Brazil’s natural stone sector, which relies heavily on the American market.

In 2024, the United States accounted for 56.3% of Brazil’s total natural stone exports, amounting to USD 711.1 million. Of that, the state of Espírito Santo alone was responsible for 82.3%, with shipments totaling USD 672.4 million to the U.S.

The newly imposed tariff places Brazilian exporters at a clear disadvantage compared to competitors from Italy, Turkey, India, and China, who will face lower or no comparable trade barriers. This development threatens the viability of more than 200 Brazilian companies involved in the export of natural stones and jeopardizes a production chain that sustains approximately 480,000 direct and indirect jobs across the country.

Centrorochas is actively monitoring the situation and is engaging with Brazilian authorities and institutional partners to identify strategies that can mitigate the impact of the tariff. The organization aims to preserve Brazil’s position in the U.S. market, ensure stability in trade relations, and safeguard the future of an industry critical to the nation’s economy.
