A five-year record was recorded in the import value of China’s raw marble and granite imports in 2021. However, the import volume of marble blocks and slabs, despite rising compared to 2020, has recorded a continuous decline over the past five years. In contrast, the import quantity of raw granites shows small upward fluctuations while remaining marginally stable.

Between 2020 – 2021 the increase in imports of marble blocks and slabs was much higher than that of granites. The table below shows the changes in the value and quantity of imports:

The increase in the value and quantity of marble blocks and slabs is due to increasing imports from all major suppliers. In comparison, imports from Iran, Greece, Italy, and Turkey showed the highest increase, compared to 2020.

In imports of raw granite, the increase in value was due to imports from India, while the decrease was due to imports from Brazil. Problems in shipping negatively affected imports from Brazil, which recorded a decline in value of -2.66% and a decrease in the quantity of -19.99%.

According to the import quantity, China’s primary supplier of raw marble was Turkey. Following, in order, are Greece, Iran, Italy and Egypt. In granite blocks and slabs, the primary supplier is India. Brazil, despite the rise in recent years, follows far behind India.
