The training sessions organized by FUM Academy in collaboration with YACademy continue with great enthusiasm, bringing together young architects from around the world. This time, the two-day event focused on the renowned Carrara marble—an Italian excellence celebrated globally for its beauty and uniqueness.

Following the official launch of the Spiritual Architecture master’s program last February, the initiative entered its most dynamic phase with the arrival of 16 young architects in Carrara. They were guided on this journey of discovery and in-depth learning by architect Nicholas Bewick, art director at Amdl-Atelier Michele De Lucchi, who offered invaluable insights into the historical, artistic, and industrial dimensions of marble.

The first day began at Fum’s headquarters, where the architects were warmly welcomed by Vice President Bernarda Franchi. After a brief presentation of the YACademy course, Mahmood Idriss introduced the group to the work of Fum Academy and its digital platform, Fumforarchitects. Architect Davide Biselli of Interninow then led the participants on a tour through the showrooms, the impressive Big One installation, Kengo Kuma’s work, and the polishing area for marble slabs.

In the afternoon, following a lunch break in Bettogli, the architects were taken on a guided visit to the historic marble quarry by Davide Giovanetti and Michel Pianini, giving them a firsthand look at the extraction process and the awe-inspiring Apuan landscape.

The second day was dedicated to the design workshop Product Design – Sacred Objects, led by Nicholas Bewick. It was a full-immersion experience in creativity and exchange, involving all participants—students, instructors, and members of Fum and YACademy—in a dialogue filled with inspiration and shared vision. The workshop laid the foundation for the final project that students will present at the end of the master’s program.

“We are honored to welcome these young architects from around the world into our company,” said Bernarda Franchi. “Today, I had the pleasure of greeting students from countries such as Australia, India, Mexico, and the United States, just to name a few. Our Academy is a living testament to the excellence of Carrara marble—not only locally, but internationally. This marble, known for its aesthetic value, must also be deeply understood. Thanks to our collaboration with YAC, we are committed to telling its story, sharing its values, and envisioning its future.”
