The marble and granite sector in Rajasthan, India, is currently facing significant challenges as recent disruptions in international trade flows are affecting both the production and distribution of raw materials.
Rajasthan, a key hub of India’s natural stone industry, is experiencing slowdowns in the import of marble blocks as well as the export of finished products. Supply from countries such as Turkey and Oman has been constrained, putting pressure on local processing units.
Export operations are also being affected. Shipments destined for Gulf and African markets are moving more slowly, while uncertainty in maritime routes has led businesses to adopt a cautious approach to new orders. Containers are frequently delayed or held in transit, adding to operational strain.
Market estimates from the Udaipur region indicate that monthly losses for the mineral sector are roughly $30–36 million USD. Daily operational losses for mining and processing units exceed $1.2 million USD, reflecting the slowdown in production activity.
The impact extends to related industries as well. Reduced production at ceramic and tile centers, such as those linked to Morbi, has lowered demand for industrial minerals like feldspar and soapstone, further affecting mining activity.
Rising transportation and cargo insurance costs are adding to the financial pressure on businesses, increasing overall extraction and logistics expenses by approximately 10%. This, in turn, affects the international competitiveness of India’s marble and granite products.
Overall, the Rajasthan marble and granite sector is adapting to a challenging environment, with companies closely monitoring developments and exploring alternative strategies to maintain smooth operations.
