A rapid increase is recorded in the exports of marble, granite and ceramic products of India between the first semesters of 2020 – 2021, marking the total return to pre-pandemic levels. The exports of the first half of the year exceeded even the exports of the first half of 2019 and recorded an increase in the value of exports of marble products by + 6.43%, granite by + 20.92% and ceramics by + 57.35%.

There was an increase between the first three months and the second trimester of 2021 in the value of marble and granite exports, while in ceramics a small decrease was recorded. In the Table below we see the changes (%) between first Semesters of 2020 – 2021 and between the first three months and the second trimester of 2021:

In the Table we observe the rapid increase between the first semesters of 2020 – 2021 in all materials but also the limited increase between the first and second trimester of 2021 in marbles and granites and the small drop in ceramics. Difficulties in the delivery of materials due to the significant shortage of containers and rising transport costs are affecting India’s exports.

In conclusion, it should be noted that India is currently on the brink of an energy crisis as low carbon reserves are not able to meet the country’s energy needs. The reason is the large increase in production after the pandemic that led to an increase in energy demand.
