India is one of the major countries in the global stone market, with strong exports and imports of marble and granite. In granite, it ranks first among the largest granite exporters globally, while in marble exports, it ranks among the top ten largest marble exporters.
Exports
Starting with granite, between the first quarters of 2022 and 2023, total exports recorded a relatively small decline in value of -9.04%, while in quantity, they recorded a marginal increase of +0.29%.
Individually, granite blocks and slabs exports between the first quarters of 2022 and 2023 fell in value by -11.67%. In quantity, they increased marginally by +0.18%, while the average price per tonne fell by -11.83%.
Exports of processed granite saw a decline in value of -7.51%, a marginal decline in quantity of +0.52% and a decline in average price of -7.99%.
In total marble exports, between the first quarters of 2022 and 2023, a decline in value by -19.21% and a decline in quantity by -19.47% was recorded.
Individually, marble blocks and slabs exports recorded a decline in value by -33.98%, quantity by -33.45% and average price per tonne by -0.8%.
Exports of processed marbles decreased in value by -15.5%, quantity by -1.97% and average price per tonne by -13.8%.
Imports
As the largest exporter worldwide, India has low granite imports, so the focus is only on marble.
Between the first quarters of 2022 and 2023, India’s total marble imports increased marginally in value by +0.3% and in quantity by +6.87%.
Individually, in imports of granite blocks and slabs, import value increased marginally by +1.22% in value, and +7.28% in quantity, while the average price per tonne decreased by -5.65%.
Imports of processed marbles decreased in value by -5.46%, in quantity by -3.66% and average price per tonne by -1.86%.
