The Official College of Architects of Galicia (COAG) has joined Stonegal 2025, the international natural stone event that will be held in Vigo from June 3 to 5, to strengthen the role of stone as a key material in contemporary architecture. Through this collaboration, alongside the Granite Cluster and the Slate Cluster, COAG will support this international event with various initiatives focused on innovation, sustainability, and the integration of stone into architectural and urban projects.

COAG’s support will help bring architecture professionals closer to the latest trends in natural stone usage, fostering knowledge transfer between designers, builders, and the stone industry. The Granite Cluster will focus on showcasing granite applications in architecture and coordinating visits to quarries and processing plants. The Slate Cluster will promote the use of slate, encouraging business participation and organizing demonstrations. COAG, for its part, will support the dissemination of the event, provide institutional backing, and collaborate in defining the congress program.

According to the Secretary-General of the Granite Cluster, José Ángel Lorenzo, “Our goal is to showcase the enormous potential of granite in modern architecture and facilitate direct contact with its extraction and transformation process.” Meanwhile, Severino González, manager of the Slate Cluster, highlights that “Slate is a versatile and sustainable material, and this event is a great opportunity for professionals to discover its advantages and applications.” In addition to its role in dissemination and institutional representation, COAG will contribute knowledge in defining the themes and program of the congress, ensuring that it addresses the most relevant topics for the architectural sector.

“The use of natural stone is a distinctive element of Galician architecture and one of the hallmarks of our built heritage. This collaboration with Stonegal allows us to strengthen the connection between the stone sector and architecture, promoting innovative and sustainable solutions,” stated Luciano Alfaya, Dean of COAG.

From Stonegal’s perspective, this alliance is crucial for enhancing knowledge about architectural applications of natural stone. “This agreement with COAG and the Granite and Slate Clusters is key to fostering dialogue between architects and industry professionals, promoting new applications of stone in construction and urban design, which is one of Stonegal’s main objectives,” said Alejandro Miras, Director of the event.
