Stonegal Summit 2025 will hold its first edition from June 3 to 5 at the Instituto Ferial de Vigo (IFEVI), transforming Galicia into the international epicenter of architecture and design centered around natural stone. This event will bring together some of the world’s most influential architects, design experts, and industry representatives to discuss the versatility, innovation, and sustainability of this material in contemporary construction.
Among the confirmed distinguished guests are Eduardo Souto de Moura, 2011 Pritzker Prize winner, renowned for his mastery in using stone in contemporary architecture; Antón García-Abril, architect and MIT professor, known for his avant-garde approach to material experimentation; Belén Moneo, co-founder of Moneo Brock Studio and a leading figure in sustainable design; and Carme Pinós, recipient of the 2021 National Architecture Award. Other key participants include architecture communicator Pedro Torrijos, architect Yaiza Camacho (Moneo Brock), architect Fernando de Porras-Isla-Fernández (Porras La Casta Arquitectos), university professor and architect Enrique Azpilicueta Astarloa, and Lorenzo Fernández Ordóñez (Estudio Guadiana).
A Space for Debate and Reflection
Stonegal Summit 2025 will serve as a platform for discussion and reflection, exploring the evolution of natural stone in architecture and its role in sustainability and innovation. According to Mauro Lomba, architect and founder of the creative space NEMONON, “this event not only highlights stone as an essential material in architecture but also showcases its potential for sustainable construction and the design of more livable cities.”
Architecture and Stone Conversations
A key component of the summit will be the “Architecture and Stone Conversations” series, where architects, designers, and experts will share their perspectives on the use of stone in iconic projects. Topics will include:
-
“The Eternal Stone”, with Antón García-Abril
-
“The Color of Stone”, with Belén Moneo
-
“The Sensitivity of Natural Stone”, with Eduardo Souto de Moura and Luisa Souto de Moura
-
“Architecture and Authenticity”, with Carme Pinós
-
“More than a Skin”, with Porras-Isla and Fernández Ordóñez
-
“Stories of Architecture and Stone”, with Pedro Torrijos
For Marisa Santamaría, researcher and curator of design trends, “Stonegal Summit 2025 will mark a turning point in how we understand the relationship between natural stone and contemporary architecture, integrating sustainability and innovation concepts.”
More Than a Conference: Technical Visits and the Stone Gala
Beyond the lectures and debates, Stonegal Summit 2025 will offer technical visits to quarries and processing plants in Porriño and Salvaterra, allowing attendees to experience firsthand the extraction and transformation processes of granite.
The event will conclude with the Stone Gala, a night of celebration where the Antonio Palacios Architecture Award will be presented.
With this inaugural edition, Stonegal Summit positions itself as a premier international forum in the natural stone sector, bringing together architects, designers, and companies in the pursuit of innovative and sustainable solutions for the future of construction.
