India’s granite export sector is currently facing significant challenges as disruptions in maritime transport have led to shipment delays, higher logistics costs, and cancelled orders.

According to international media reports, several companies in the industry—particularly in southern India, where a large share of the country’s granite production is concentrated—have reported that shipments are being delayed or held at ports due to problems affecting shipping routes.

Cancelled Orders and Delayed Shipments

Exporters say that part of their international orders have been cancelled or placed on hold, while several shipments have experienced substantial delays. In some cases, consignments that had already been prepared for export have yet to leave port.

The situation has affected the normal flow of exports, as companies in the sector depend on stable shipping connections to deliver products to overseas markets.

Rising Transportation Costs

At the same time, companies report that transportation costs have increased noticeably. Higher freight rates and additional charges on certain routes are adding to the overall cost of exporting stone products.

For the granite sector, where materials are transported in large volumes and heavy loads, such increases have a direct impact on the viability of shipments.

A Key Export Industry

India is one of the world’s major producers and exporters of granite. Much of the production comes from southern states, where extensive quarrying operations and stone processing facilities operate.

The sector exports granite to numerous global markets for use in construction, architecture, and decorative applications.

Temporary Disruptions in the Supply Chain

The current difficulties are linked to disruptions in maritime transport and trade routes that have affected cargo movements from ports in the region.

Companies in the industry are closely monitoring developments, as granite exports depend heavily on the smooth operation of international logistics networks.
