The discussion in the United States regarding crystalline silica exposure frameworks is entering a new phase, extending its scope to include natural stone, with a particular focus on quartzites.
This development makes the collection of reliable scientific data directly from producing countries a matter of critical importance. In this context, the Brazilian association Centrorochas, in collaboration with the Natural Stone Institute (NSI), is establishing a specialized funding pool aimed at providing technical, scientific, and institutional support for the sector in the US market.
Funding Scheme
To support the initiative and raise the required funds, interested companies are invited to contribute USD 500 per month for a period of 18 months.
Key Allocations of Funds
The capital raised will be targeted toward the following areas:
-
Scientific Research: Conducting specialized studies and providing technical support regarding silica content levels, exposure thresholds, and appropriate protective measures for natural stone.
-
Laboratory Testing: Performing analyses and material sampling on Brazilian stone when deemed necessary.
-
Technical Communication: Executing informative campaigns and public relations programs in the US market.
-
Institutional Representation: Participating in regulatory meetings, consultations, and scientific forums across the United States.
Governance Structure and Transparency
The funds will be managed by Centrorochas, with oversight provided by a joint Centrorochas–NSI committee. Regular accountability reporting will be ensured for all participants, guaranteeing full transparency regarding the allocation and precise direction of contributions.
