The quarrying areas of Carrara have been among the world’s most important marble production sites for centuries. At the same time, however, the imposing landscape shaped by extraction activities is gradually acquiring a new role, hosting initiatives that connect natural stone with art, design, fashion, and contemporary creativity.
A striking example was the recent Alfaparf Milano Professional event, held at the Cave di Carrara as the dramatic final stop of Italian Exclusive – A Golden Journey (following Sorrento and Ostuni). The choice of the quarries was far from a mere search for a scenic backdrop; the marble and the quarry environment itself became an integral part of the evening’s aesthetic and scenography.
A Stage Among Blocks of Marble
In this extraordinary amphitheater, Alfaparf Milano Professional’s creative teams—featuring Francesco Arancio, Lorenzo Marchelle, Leonardo Minelli for the Now Professional Team, and Rudy Mostarda—presented their creations through a series of hair shows.

The vast surfaces of white marble, the carved volumes, and the sheer scale of the landscape formed a stage completely unlike a conventional event venue. The contrast between the geological endurance of the stone and the dynamic movement of hairstyling served as the central visual highlight. Meanwhile, specialized lighting on the raw and carved surfaces brought out the unique textures of the rock, turning the quarry itself into the main protagonist of the experience.
From Extraction Site to Global Platform
For the natural stone industry, this dual purpose of quarry sites is particularly compelling.
The primary function remains, of course, extraction. However, hosting international events adds new brand equity to Carrara’s identity. A broader audience—beyond the traditional stone market—engages directly with the production site, perceiving the quarry not just as an industrial zone, but as a landmark with a powerful aesthetic and cultural presence.
Carrara: Where Marble Meets Creativity
The Alfaparf event highlights how a quarry can become part of a global narrative that extends far beyond industrial production. Carrara marble is no longer presented solely as a raw material, but as a benchmark for contemporary aesthetics.
When international brands choose extraction sites to showcase their creative vision, marble gains access to entirely new audiences. This represents one of the most promising new dimensions for the future of quarries: remaining hubs of production while simultaneously serving as vibrant spaces where marble meets culture, design, and the global creative industry.
