Canada is a very important market that absorbs large quantities of finished marble, granite and ceramics. The COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns have widened the steady decline in all three materials over the past three years.

Specifically, between 2017 – 2020 there was a decrease in the value of imports of finished marble products by -40.59%, of granite by -44.37% and ceramics -21.81%. However, in the first trimester of 2021, imports of finished marble, granite and ceramics recovered compared to the first three months of 2020.

In the Table below we see the changes (%) in the value of exports between the first three months of 2020 – 2021, the last three months of 2020 and the first three months of 2021 of imports of finished marble, granite and ceramics of Canada.

The rise in ceramics between the first three months of 2020-2021 is due to increased imports from India, China, Spain and Turkey. The increase in finished marble products is due to the increase in imports from China and in finished granites to imports from Brazil and India.

The Fourth trimester of 2020 was the trimester with the highest imports for Canada so the decline we see in the Table between Fourth trimester of 2020 – Fourth trimester 2021 was expected.

Imports of finished marble products from Canada in the first trimester of 2021 exceeded $ 17.6 million, granite $ 10 million and ceramics $ 79 million.
