A Piece of Tuscany in the Heart of London. The Carrara quarries are set to write a new chapter in their millennia-old history by providing the precious white marble for the creation of new portals at Buckingham Palace. This initiative once again underscores the excellence and international fame of Apuan marble.

The idea of replacing the old wooden portals with elegant marble counterparts arose from a specific request by the British royal family. Giacomo Bernacca, a Carrara entrepreneur leading B. Blocks, a historic company in the sector, revealed the details of this prestigious project.

“We were contacted directly from London by one of our regular clients,” explains Bernacca. “The challenge was to reproduce the existing portals in marble, preserving the original details and friezes.” A delicate task that requires skill and precision, but one that the Carrara company is ready to undertake.

A Journey into the Heart of Royalty

Bernacca has already conducted an inspection of Buckingham Palace, an unforgettable experience: “It was like crossing the threshold of the Quirinale,” says the entrepreneur. “I visited the places where the new portals will be installed, following the instructions of the royal architect, a name that I cannot reveal for confidentiality reasons. It was a very formal experience, complete with royal guards and an absolute ban on photography.”

The Perfect Marble

To create the twenty new portals, a very high-quality Bianco Carrara Extra marble, free of veins, has been selected. “Yesterday I was at the quarry with Franco Petacchi to choose the perfect block,” explains Bernacca. “The marble will be worked with state-of-the-art machinery and finished by hand to ensure an impeccable result.”

A Unique Opportunity

This order represents a unique opportunity to promote the excellence of Carrara marble internationally. “We are proud to be able to contribute to the enhancement of such a precious material and to make Italian craftsmanship known worldwide,” concludes Bernacca.
