Pre-production and location scouting in the Apuan Alps for the French film “L’inconnu de la Grand Arche” are nearing completion.

With the support of CNA – Cinema e Audiovisivo of Massa-Carrara, a newly established cinema office led by Daniela Marzano dedicated to connecting local productions with businesses, pre-production and location scouting for the French film “L’inconnu de la Grand Arche” (The Unknown of the Grand Arch) by renowned French director, producer, and screenwriter Stéphane Demoustier are drawing to a close in Carrara. The production chose the quarries in Carrara and the surrounding areas to film a chapter of the film which tells the story of the famous La Défense arch (also known as the Grand Arch) in Paris, commissioned by then French President François Mitterrand. This futuristic arch was designed by Danish architect Johann Otto von Spreckelsen, who faced disappointment when the white Carrara marble slabs intended for its construction were replaced with American granite in 2011.

CNA – Cinema e Audiovisivo provided significant support to the production, fostering excellent collaboration with Roman executive producer Marcantonio Borghese in recent months. Borghese boasts an impressive resume of approximately ten Franco-Italian productions and films such as “Eros” (2004) by Michelangelo Antonioni and Steven Soderbergh.

“Together with my colleague Gino Angelo Lattanzi from CNA’s Institutional Relations, we personally experienced the remarkable hospitality of the people of Carrara, who generously opened their locations, including private ones, to the production,” says President Marzano. “They shared our belief that cinema and audiovisual media are essential tools for promoting our region and history globally, stimulating local economic growth, and encouraging film tourism. We express our sincere gratitude to the people of Carrara and hope for more prestigious opportunities like this one, with even greater benefits for the area.”
