Italy’s marble, granite and ceramic exports recorded a different recovery rate in the first nine months of 2021 compared to 2020. Statistics show that marble exports recorded a higher growth rate than granites and ceramics. However, the obstacles posed by the pandemic are preventing exports from returning to pre-Covid levels.

Comparing the second and third quarters of 2021, it becomes apparent that granite exports descended less than marble and ceramics exports. The table below shows the changes in the value of exports of the nine months of 2020 – 2021 and between the second and third quarters of 2021:

These changes in marble are caused by export fluctuations to China, the top marble blocks and slabs importer and the US, the leading finished marble importer.

Changes in granites adjusted exports to Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. On the other hand, changes in ceramics are due to exports to France, the USA and Germany.

Exports to Germany, Switzerland and Austria are responsible for the changes in granite export numbers, whereas exporting to France, the USA and, Germany is the cause for changes in ceramic export numbers.

During the first nine months of 2021, export values of granite and ceramics were the highest of the last five years, while marble exports matched the 2019 levels.
