Singapore’s imports of finished marble, granite products and ceramics in the first trimester of 2021

What did Singapore import more  in the first trimester of 2021, marble, granite or ceramics?

The COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdowns have widened the rapid decline recorded in the last decade in imports of finished marble and granite products from Singapore. Specifically, between 2011 – 2020 a decrease of -66.32% was recorded in the value of imports of finished marble products and -44.92% of granites. On the contrary, during the same period, ceramic imports increased by + 102.14%.

In the first trimester of 2021, imports of finished marble products  and ceramics recovered compared to the first trimester of 2020, while in contrast to finished granite products, they fell.

The table below shows the changes (%) in the value of exports between the first trimesters of 2020 – 2021, the fourth trimester of 2020 and the first trimester of 2021 of imports of finished marble, granite products and ceramics from Singapore.

The increase in ceramics between the 1st trimester of 2020 – 2021 is due to the increase in imports from China. The increase in finished marbles is due to the increase in imports from China and Italy. Imports from China and Italy fell on finished granite products.

Between the 4th trimester of 2020 and the 1st trimester of 2021, the increase in imports of finished marble and granite is due to the increase in imports from China and Italy. Ceramics saw a drop in imports from China, Spain and Indonesia.

Imports of Singapore’s marble in the first trimester of 2021 exceeded $ 4.7 million, granite $ 3.3 million and ceramics $ 16.4 million.
