Tangshan Quarry Park was an abandoned limestone quarry that Z&T Studio was tasked with transforming into a public space featuring a natural environment with lots of flora and fauna.

The park, in which four gigantic craters stand out, is located 30 km from the city of Nanjing and on the southern slope of Tangshan Mountain.

“Z&T Studio has created a thoughtful, poetic, and well-considered landscape architectural project that considers the integration of the site and its users: human and non-human,” the judging panel said.

“At all stages of the design process, we can see the integration of environmental and social ecologies manifest in an exquisitely executed project.

“The outstanding narrative on the relationship between nature and people uncovering dynamic processes captivated the jurors.”

The award recognises the social and design trends of the landscaping industry as well as the social concerns and emergencies in broader society.
