The Orient Express, a symbol of luxury and classic charm, is entering a new era with the renewal of its legendary suite showcasing the craftsmanship of the Italian company Furrer from Carrara. The interior design, under the guidance of renowned French architect JR, highlights the famous marbles of the region, blending artistic expression with the expertise of the Mazzi family.

The Art of Marble in Motion

Furrer was chosen for its specialization in managing and installing marble under conditions requiring precision, such as those of a moving train. Paolo Mazzi, the company’s general manager, emphasized: “We guaranteed the stability and durability of the marble against vibrations, thus ensuring its timeless aesthetics and functionality.”

Furrer’s contribution included two key areas of the suite: the bathroom and the bedroom. In the bathroom, a striking artistic mosaic depicting JR’s hand takes center stage, while in the bedroom, an impressive marble arch frames a backlit glass panel, creating a luxurious backdrop for the bathtub.

Challenges and Innovation

The renovation was not without its challenges. The limited spaces and the mobility of the train required groundbreaking techniques and meticulous precision. Furrer rose to the occasion with solutions that combined traditional craftsmanship with technological innovation, maintaining the luxurious design’s aesthetics.

A New Journey of Luxury

The refurbished Orient Express will embark on its maiden voyage from Paris to Istanbul this December. Aiming to promote sustainable luxury tourism, the train promises its passengers the ultimate experience in comfort and elegance.

Mazzi stated: “We are proud to leave the imprint of Italian marble on such a unique project that combines contemporary design with the tradition of Made in Italy.”

Through this artistic and technical transformation, the Orient Express continues to write history as a symbol of luxury and timeless style.
