UK imports of processed granite, marble, and ceramics during the second quarter of 2022

Recent years have seen UK imports of processed granite and marble decreasing, while ceramics imports have been increasing. Specifically, according to statistics, between 2017 – 2021, the import value of worked granite imports fell by over 14% and marble by 21%. In contrast, granite imports increased by about 32%.

In the second quarter of 2022, imports of all three materials recorded a significant increase compared to the second quarter of 2021. By contrast, between the first and second quarters of 2022, imports of processed granite recorded a slight decrease in value and an increase in quantity. Imports of processed marble recorded a decline in value and quantity, while imports of ceramics increased in value and quantity.

The UK’s primary suppliers of processed granite are China and India, the chief suppliers of processed granites are China and India, the biggest supplier of processed marble is Italy, and the principal suppliers of ceramics are Spain and Italy.

In the second quarter of 2022, the import value of treated granites was approximately $24 million, marbles $23 million and ceramics $283 million.

680293: Granite, in any form, polished, decorated or otherwise worked (excluding tiles, cubes and similar articles of subheading 6802.10, imitation jewellery, clocks, lamps and lighting fittings and parts thereof, original sculptures and statuary, setts, curbstones and flagstones).

6907: Ceramic flags and paving, hearth or wall tiles; ceramic mosaic cubes and the like, whether or not on a backing (excl. of siliceous fossil meals or similar siliceous earths, refractory goods, tiles specially adapted as table mats, ornamental articles and tiles specifically manufactured for stoves)
