Brazil’s granite and marble exports in the second quarter of 2022

The rise in Brazil’s exports of marble in recent years continued in the second quarter of 2022. In contrast, granite exports remained on a downward trend. Typically, between the second quarters of 2018 – 2022, marble exports increased in value by +130.38% and quantity by +110.69%. During the same period, granite exports decreased by -11.63% in value and -17.81% in quantity.

Focusing on 2022, the table below shows the % changes in the value and quantity of granite and marble exports between the first quarters of 2021 and 2022 and between the first and second quarters of 2022.

Marble exports in the second quarter of 2022 set a five-year record. The rise over the last five years is mainly due to the increasing exports of unprocessed marble to China and processed marble to the US. Between the second quarters of 2018 – 2022, Brazil’s exports of unprocessed marbles to China increased in value by +1269% and quantity by +453.43%. Similarly, processed marble exports to the US., between the second quarters of 2018 – 2022, increased in value by +84.76% and quantity by +57.67%.

The increase between the first and second quarters of 2022 was due to increasing exports of processed marbles to the US, while exports of unprocessed marble to China declined during the same period.

In granite exports, the downward trend in recent years is due to a decrease in exports of unprocessed granite to China and processed granite to the US. Between the second quarters of 2018 – 2022, Brazil’s exports of unprocessed granite to China decreased in value by -14.7% and in quantity by -30.36%. Between the second quarters of 2018 – 2022, processed marble exports to the United States decreased in value by -22.46% and quantity by -17.38%.

The increase between the first and second quarters of 2022 was due to increasing exports of processed granite to the US, while exports of unprocessed granite to China fell marginally in value and increased in quantity during the same period.
