The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between India and Oman has officially moved into its implementation phase, with the first real commercial shipments of goods now taking place. This development marks the practical activation of the trade pact, which entered into force on June 1, 2026, shifting the focus directly onto the market and commercial enterprises.

These initial shipments, which primarily involved the food sector, served as the first practical test for customs procedures, clearance speeds, and the application of reduced tariffs at the border. As the administrative mechanisms successfully respond, the spotlight is now shifting to how exporters will capitalize on preferential access to both markets.

The Opportunity for Omani Marble

For the natural stone industry, the actual launch of these shipments provides a long-awaited “green light.” Oman possesses significant advantages in selected production sectors, with marble explicitly cited by market analysts as one of the key industries with the greatest potential to benefit from CEPA.

With the agreement securing highly favorable terms, the challenge for Omani marble companies now moves to the commercial arena. They are tasked with converting this new tariff reality into concrete export contracts, stable distribution networks, and long-term commercial partnerships within India’s massive and continuously growing market.

Years of theory and negotiations have officially given way to practice. The coming months will reveal how quickly and to what extent the marble sector will absorb the benefits of this new trade corridor.
