Foster + Partners has unveiled their design for a one-billion-dollar “vertical creative office” on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood.
The project, named “The Star” and designed for a developer of the same name, will be a cylindrical building featuring cascading green spaces that spiral up the exterior. It will boast floor-to-ceiling windows offering 360-degree views of downtown Los Angeles, the Hollywood sign, and the Pacific Ocean. A rooftop restaurant will cap the building, while the street level will feature a video screen, restaurants, community gathering spaces, a theater, and a gallery.
“This design truly reflects the workplace of the future,” commented Norman Foster. “Green social terraces spiraling through the building will foster a sense of community, well-being, and collaboration, further energizing the city’s incredible creative industries.”
Nigel Dancey, the head of the studio, added: “Embodying the spirit of creativity and innovation that Hollywood is known for, the building’s spiraling form capitalizes on the 360-degree views, creating a new landmark destination for Los Angeles. Cascading gardens will provide opportunities for outdoor work, while natural light and ventilation will create a healthy and highly productive work environment on Hollywood’s famous Sunset Boulevard.”
