Italy’s exports of marble and stone sawing and polishing machines in the first quarter of 2022

Italy’s exports of marble and stone sawing and polishing machines started the year on an upward trend. Italian companies appear to be overcoming problems in the global supply chain and high transport costs, as exports of stone sawing and polishing machines in the first quarter of 2022 set a five-year record, while marble exports reached record levels in previous years.

Marble exports in the first quarter of 2022 saw an increase, compared to 2021, in unprocessed and finished marble. The table below depicts the changes (%) in the total value and quantity of marble exports between the first quarters of 2021 and 2022:

The increase in unprocessed marble is due to increased exports to China, India and Egypt. In finished marble, the rise is due to increased exports to the United States, Saudi Arabia and France.

In the first quarter of 2022, Italy exported marble to 119 countries.

Exports of stone sawing and polishing machines

In the first quarter of 2022, exports of stone polishing machines (Hs Code: 84642080) recorded a higher increase than sawing machines (Hs Code: 84641000). The table below shows the changes (%) in the export value of sawing and polishing machines for a stone between the first quarters of 2021 and 2022:

In polishing machines (Hs Code: 84642080), the export value in the first quarter of 2022 exceeded EUR 28.2 million compared to around EUR 21.6 million in the first quarter of 2021. The increase was mainly due to higher exports to Brazil, the US, India and France.

In stone sawing machines (Hs Code: 84641000), the export value in the first quarter of 2022 exceeded 49.1 million euros compared to about 40.4 million euros in the first quarter of 2021. The increase is mainly due to increased exports to the US, France and India.

In the first quarter of 2022, Italy exported polishing machines to 52 countries and stone sawing machines to 74.
