Italy, in one of the most difficult periods in its history, managed to keep marble exports at a high level

Italy, in one of the most difficult periods in its history, managed to maintain exports at a high level thanks to the professionalism and vigor of companies and employees. Proportionately, Italy in 2020 restrained the decline in exports of marble products compared to 2019, recording a decrease in total value by -21.12% and quantity by -29.48%.

In the Table below we see the monthly changes (%) in the exports of marble products of Italy between 2019 2020.

In the first half of 2020, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdowns, led to the rapid decline in exports compared to 2019 by -30.55% in value and -40.86% in quantity. In the second half, despite the new wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, exports improved and recorded a decrease compared to 2019 by -12.04% in value and -18.27% in quantity.

The decline in  marble blocks and slabs was greater due to declining exports to major destinations China and India. Specifically, between 2019 – 2020 there was a decrease in value by -34.13% in value and -35.55% in quantity.

In finished marble products the decline was much smaller than in marble blocks and slabs  mainly due to the increase in exports to Saudi Arabia and Qatar and the reduction of the decline to the USA. Between 2019 – 2020 a decrease was recorded  in value by 15 , 02% in value and 15.18% in quantity.

The month with the lowest exports was April while the month with the highest was October.
