The Aegean Mineral Exporters Association, in just two months, they organized events in Saudi Arabia, England, and South Korea, all aimed at boosting Turkish mineral exports. These marketing efforts paid off handsomely, with exports soaring from $14.5 million to a staggering $161 million in the January-February period – a remarkable 1,010% increase!
Building on this early success, the Association is now gearing up for two major industry fairs: the Xiamen Natural Stone and Technologies Fair in China (March) and the Izmir MARBLE Natural Stone and Technologies Fair in Turkey (April).
At a recent press conference, the Aegean Mineral Exporters Association leadership – Chairman İbrahim Alimoğlu, Vice Chairmen Faik Tokatlıoğlu and İbrahim Altınpınar, and Board Member Reyhan Sezgin – discussed their plans for 2024 and provided updates on the mining sector.
Chairman Alimoğlu highlighted Turkey’s prominent role in the global production and export of natural stone and minerals. Backed by rich mineral deposits, high-quality products, advanced technology, and competitive pricing, Turkey boasts a booming mining sector. The country exports nearly 80 different minerals, with natural stone alone accounting for one-third of total exports (valued at $1.9 billion in 2023).
However, Alimoğlu acknowledged a decline in overall mining exports from $6.5 billion in 2022 to $5.7 billion in 2023. He attributed this decrease to challenges faced both domestically and in the global economy.
