The Dutch market recorded a significant increase in marble imports during the first half of 2026, with the total value of imports rising by 21.55% and volumes increasing by 15.21% compared with the same period in 2025. The figures point to stronger import activity, with finished marble products making a substantial contribution to the positive performance.
More specifically, imports of Finished Marble Products increased by 23.36% in value and 15.53% in quantity. At the same time, the average value per ton rose by 6.78%, indicating that the growth in imports was driven by both higher volumes and an increase in the average value of imported products.
A different trend emerged in Marble Blocks & Slabs. Although imported quantities increased by 11.88%, their total value declined by 23.27%. The average value per ton recorded an even sharper decrease of 31.42%, pointing to significant changes in the price levels or product mix of imports within this category.
Mixed Performance in Granite Imports
In the granite sector, imports of Granite Blocks & Slabs showed considerable fluctuations. Their value declined by 15.95%, while imported quantities recorded a much steeper decrease of 89.50%. At the same time, the average value per ton increased by 700.60%.
This substantial divergence between value and volume points to a significant change in the composition of imports, as the much smaller quantities imported appear to correspond to products with a considerably higher average value. However, this increase should not automatically be interpreted as a general rise in imported granite prices.
Imports of Finished Granite Products followed a more positive trend. Their value increased by 10.95%, while quantities rose by 15.05%. Meanwhile, the average value per ton declined by 3.57%, indicating an expansion in imported volumes accompanied by a slight decrease in average value.
Strong Growth in Raw Quartzite Imports
Raw Quartzite recorded particularly strong growth, registering the highest percentage increase among the product categories examined. Import value rose by 84.80%, while quantities increased by 70.81%. The average value per ton also grew by 8.19%.
The simultaneous increase across all three indicators highlights the significant strengthening of raw quartzite imports, both in volume and value, during the period under review.
In contrast, Finished Quartzite imports declined. Their value fell by 5.20%, quantities decreased by 4.10%, and the average value per ton dropped by 1.15%, resulting in an overall negative performance for this category.
Overall Picture of the Dutch Market
The figures for the first half of 2026 point to an overall increase in marble imports into the Netherlands, with the growth in value exceeding that in volume. Finished marble products performed particularly well, while Marble Blocks & Slabs followed a contrasting trend, with imported quantities increasing despite a substantial decline in value.
At the same time, the sharp rise in Raw Quartzite imports stands out as one of the most significant developments of the period, contrasting with the decline recorded in finished products made from the same material.
The differing performances across product categories highlight changes in the composition of imports into the Dutch natural stone market, with distinct trends emerging between raw materials and processed products.
