Brazil is the second largest exporter of granite block and slabs in the world, but exports have been declining significantly since 2014. On the contrary, marble block and slabs exports, although much lower, have been moving upwards in recent years. Specifically, granite blocks and slabs exports between 2014 and 2018 decreased by 26,13% while marble exports increased by 48,85%.

The following table presents Brazil’s exports of granite and marble block and slabs in 2018 and their changes between 2017 and 2018.

The table shows the great difference between granite and marble blocks and slabs concerning the value and the quantity of exports, as well as the rapid increase in marble exports to granite.

The granite blocks and slabs statistics show that between 2017 and 2018, the export value to China increased by 2.79%, but it was not enough to contain the overall decline. The significant decline in Brazil’s exports to other destinations has decisively affected total exports.

As for marble blocks and slabs, the large increase in exports to Italy and China has boosted total exports resulting to a record high.

In conclusion, Brazil exports granite blocks and slabs mainly under HS Code 251612 and marble blocks and slabs mainly under HS Code 251512.
