“The year 1984 (nineteen eighty-four) on the 4th (fourth) day of April in Milan at the house of Via Macedonio Melloni n.18 before me Dr. Paolo Setti notary in Segrate…”
These are the opening words of the founding act of Confindustria Marmomacchine, founded exactly forty years ago in Milan.
The ambition was to create an innovative supply chain organization that would bring together “Companies producing marble, granite or similar materials and machines, equipment, accessories and complements for their processing,” as stated in the first Statute.
A far-sighted vision
Forty years on, Confindustria Marmomacchine celebrates its birthday with pride, aware of having made a significant contribution to the development of the Italian stone industry.
The Association’s mission, which has remained unchanged over time, is to “connect member companies in order to achieve their promotional collaboration; study and promote initiatives that induce the development of their domestic and foreign markets; collect and process all the elements useful for the development of the Associated Companies and their progress; represent them in Italy and abroad, on every occasion and at the appropriate level, as determined by the Executive or the Assembly; defend and promote the increase of employment in the sector or induced by it”.
A mission that was extremely modern at the time and is still relevant today, to which the Association dedicates its daily commitment to serving the sector and the companies that populate it.
A thank you to the pioneers
The credit for this longevity goes first and foremost to the vision and foresight of the man who put the first signature on that founding act dated 4/4/1984: Mr. Angelo Marabelli, who served as President of our Association from its foundation until 2000.
Together with him, Confindustria Marmomacchine would like to remember and thank all the Presidents who, assisted by all those who have succeeded each other within its governance, have taken up the baton and guided the Association over these first forty years:

- Carlo Zerlia (President from 2010 to 2014)
- Stefano Ghirardi (President from 2014 to 2018)
- Marco de Angelis (President from 2018 to 2022)
- Federico Fraccaroli (President in office)
Thanks to their commitment and dedication, Confindustria Marmomacchine has established itself as an essential point of reference for the Italian and international stone industry.
A future of challenges and opportunities
Confindustria Marmomacchine looks to the future with confidence and awareness of the challenges facing the sector. The Association will continue to work to promote the competitiveness of its member companies, enhance the value of Italian marble in the world, and protect the interests of the sector.
The 40th anniversary is an important milestone, but it is only a stage in a journey that will continue in the spirit of innovation, collaboration, and growth.

About Confindustria Marmomacchine
Confindustria Marmomacchine is the Italian Association of Producers and Processors of Marble, Granite and Natural Stones in general, and of Manufacturers of Machines, Plants, Tools and Complementary Products for their extraction and processing.
The Association represents over 400 companies in the Italian stone sector, which generate a total turnover of over 5 billion euros and employ around 12,000 people.
Confindustria Marmomacchine plays an active role in promoting Italian marble worldwide, through participation in international fairs, the organization of events and seminars, and the realization of communication campaigns.
The Association is also committed to protecting the interests of the Italian stone sector at national and international level, representing its member companies.
