Finished marble, granite, and ceramics imports of United Kingdom after Brexit

On June 23, 2016, British people decided via referendum the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union. As a result, since 2017, the UK’s finished marble, granite, and ceramics imports from countries inside and outside of the EU recorded a different trend.

Specifically, between the nine months of 2017 – 2021 the total value of the imports of finished granite decreased by -4.43%, and that of marble imports decreased by -9.03%. On the contrary, ceramics imports showed a rapid increase of +160.69%. At the same time, the imports of finished granite from the 27 EU member states showed a decrease of -48.65%. Meanwhile, the imports of marble increased by +36.31% and of ceramics by + 42.13%.

The UK’s EU withdrawal agreement entered into force on December 31, 2020. Between the first, second and third quarters of 2021, there is a gradual decline in the shares of the EU member states in the UK’s total imports:

The UK imports from countries inside and outside of the EU record a different trend during the first nine months of 2021.

During the first nine months of 2021, the UK’s principal ceramics supplier countries are Spain, Turkey, India, and Italy. The UK’s finished granite suppliers are China and India. Finally, the UK’s finished marble suppliers are Turkey, China, Italy, and Egypt.

6907: Ceramic flags and paving, hearth or wall tiles; ceramic mosaic cubes and the like, whether or not on a backing (excl. of siliceous fossil meals or similar siliceous earths, refractory goods, tiles specially adapted as table mats, ornamental articles and tiles specifically manufactured for stoves)
