Greece’s marble sector steadily upgoing in 2018

The Ministry of Environment and Energy of Greece published the annual report on mining and quarrying activity in Greece for 2018 in order to inform the authorities as well as any citizen about it. Among other information, the report showed that marble sector of Greece is constantly growing through recent years.

According to the report, Greece has marble reserves of significant quantity and quality, whose potential is reflected in the growth of activity reports this year and over time in productive performance, the degree of employment of scientific, technical and labor personnel and the strong extroversion of the sector .

The exporting profile of the marble mining and processing industries as well as the special quality of the products (marble, slabs) rank the country in the top positions for 2018, as it managed to export in the highest price per tonne among its competitors, a result that was first published in Stonenews.eu

An additional interesting element of the report is the increase in marble quarry workers over the years, which demonstrates the industry’s contribution to local communities and the contribution against unemployment. More specifically, the number of workers in marble quarries in 2018 increased by 35.8% compared to 2013 (1599 employees).
