The problems caused by the pandemic affect the return of Greek marble exports to pre-coronavirus levels. The analysis of the statistical data between the nine months of 2017 – 2021 shows the total value of marble exports of Greece reached the levels of 2017. Individually, the exports of marble blocks and slabs were the lowest of the last five years while, on the contrary, those of finished marble were the highest.

Between the nine months of 2020 – 2021 there was an increase in value and quantity. On the contrary, between the second and third trimester of 2021 there was a decline:

The changes we see in the table above are due to the fluctuations in exports towards the main destinations: China, USA, United Arab Emirates.

Focusing on China, which absorbs most of the exports, the problems in transportation, plant closures due to electricity shortages, and the real estate market seem to have negatively affected Greece’s exports. Specifically, except for 2020, finished marble blocks and slabs exports to China in the first nine months of 2021 are the lowest in value and quantity, while the average price per ton is lower than in 2018 and 2019.
