Record high for Italy’s Marble Blocks & Slabs exports in 2017

Italy is the second largest exporter of Marble Blocks & Slabs in the world. In 2017 there was a record high in value and quantity of exports.

Stonenews.eu, after studying the statistical results of the International Trade Centre and the National Statistical Institutes, is presenting the growth of Italy’s Marble Blocks & Slabs exports between 2016 and 2017 as well as the shares in value and quantity in 2017.

Italy, despite the fact that it’s the second most powerful country (after Turkey) in Marble Blocks & Slabs exports, is the leading force of the global market.

In 2017, Italy surpassed history and achieved a record high in value and quantity of Marble Blocks & Slabs exports, while the price per ton reached the record levels of 2014. After the downward trend of the three last years (2014, 2015, 2016), in 2017 Italy recovered and accomplished an increase of +29,95% in value and of +21,28% in quantity of Marble Blocks and Slabs exports, compared to 2016. The price per ton, after two stable years (2015, 2016) raised by +7,15%.

The rise of exports is due to the great increase of exports towards the two main Marble Blocks and Slabs destinations, China and India.

The table below shows the top ten destinations of Italy’s Marble Blocks and Slabs, according to their shares in export value in 2017.

As shown at the table, in 2017, Italy exported Marble Blocks & Slabs in higher price per ton, compared to 2016, to Indonesia by +25,68%, to Chinese Taipei by +14,12%, to Thailand by +13,18%, to China by +31%, to Egypt by +6,24%, to Lebanon by +5,48%, to Algeria by +4%and to the US by +0,46%. On the contrary, Italy exported in lower price per ton only to Hong Kong by -10,8% and to India by -7,85%.

In 2017, Italy exported Marble Blocks & Slabs to 107 countries. 62,1% of the export value was under HS Code 251511*, 37,3% under code 251512* and the rest 0,6% under code.

251511: Marble and travertine, crude or roughly trimmed

251512: Marble and travertine, merely cut, by sawing or otherwise, into blocks or slabs of a square or rectangular shape

251520: Ecaussine and other calcareous monumental or building stone of an apparent specific gravity of >= 2,5, and alabaster, whether or not roughly trimmed or merely cut, by sawing or otherwise, into blocks or slabs of a square or rectangular shape (excluding in the form of granules, chippings or powder, and marble and travertine)
